Climbing —Huasteca 280/365
Went to see the wall where I used to climb in the early 90s with my friends. I regret not having pursue it as a more serious hobby or sport, since it was fun as hell. These walls are precious for climbers, and they are just a few minutes drive from home. The two things I miss the most in Berlin are the mountains and the sun.
Galaxie 500 — San Pedro Garza García 279/365
One of the characters of “Roma”, the new movie by Alfonso Cuarón, is a Galaxie. It roars as hell. It plays an important role as an object of frustration. But, above all, it is crucial when the husband is being introduced: a masterpiece, because I had never seen so clearly how a car can tell you so much about its owner. Today, when I saw this old guy, covered in dust, I felt the whole tragic drama of “Roma” in my stomach. What else can you ask from true art?

My first ascension — San Pedro Garza García 278/365
This is my favorite peak and the first one I ascended in my life. The window of my childhood room offered me this view every day. I’ve seen it under rain and snow, on fire and within clouds, black bears have come down to our place in search of food, and it was “bought” by the major, who modified the law for his own fucking benefit. The monolith has no known name, but for me it has always been “La nariz”. This view means for me being at home.

Volcanoes — Mexico 277/365
I don’t remember such crystal clear days in Mexico City as these. Yesterday you could see all those 7 or 8 little volcanoes on the eastern part of Mexico City. Today, you could even see the Pico de Orizaba, our highest mountain, at least 250 km far away. You can just wonder how terrible the destruction of the landscape (in name of progress) has been.

Vivid street — Mexico City 276/365
Some cities have vibrant streets, such as this one. Having a walk this morning in Polanco I stumbled upon a boxing class... just there, in the middle of the street of a bus neighborhood. Perhaps the most vibrant city I know is Havana, and as a country I would say it’s Italy. Whatever it may be, when you live in Northern Europe, you feel the lack of such an atmosphere.

The coolest airport — Amsterdam 275/365
Why book a transatlantic flight over the US, where they rip off your shoes and might look into your cellphone if you can fly over Schiphol? The Airport Library has a nice collection of art and design books, and a public piano let’s anyone share their talent. I’ve been waiting here for an hour and this guy just can’t stop playing cool songs, all the way from Beethoven’s Für Elise to John Lennon’s Imagine. Cheers!

Roma — Potsdamer Platz 274/365
Funny thing to see the whole Mexican community at the cinema, as there are only very few screenings planned in Berlin. A good movie about a daily life in Mexico, as seen from the point of view of those women who aren’t seen but, as the movie shows, loved as part of the family. Great photography, slow rhythm, two strong women and two bastards. Great recreation of the early 1970s in Mexico. I’m not into melodramatic soap operas, so Gravity touched me deeper and impressed me more. Non-Mexicans will find it way more interesting.

My smallest book — Zehlendorf 273/365
“My fundamental rights in the European Union” is the smallest book I have. There is a famous library for tiny books in Nikolaiviertel, the medieval part of town, a must if you are into this stuff, but I got this one somewhere else.

Christmas market — Zehlendorf 272/365
I don’t like Christmas and I don’t like Christmas markets, one of the most iconic products of German Christianity. Of 10 Decembers in Berlin, I think this is the 3rd time I visit one: they are crowded, cheesy and you get cold, very cold. But Germans (and tourists) love them. As a Mexican I prefer meeting friends and relatives at home, and having a nice dinner, than freezing in the queue to order a sausage. But that draws pretty clearly a cultural difference between them and us.

The fallen soldier — Zoologischer Garten 271/365
This monument to the unknown fallen soldier used to be placed in the middle of green grass next to the water canal. Then it was moved to the train station, just next to the center for homeless people. It has been pissed all over since then, so the government is refurbishing the area. Poor soldier, glory is something from the past...

Estorbo — ACBDF 270/365

What women feel — Helmut Newton Museum 269/365
I went to see this amazing exhibition by David Lynch, Samuel Leiter and Helmut Newton today. I was mesmerized by the photos of Lynch (a pity that they chose bad glass which reflects a lot!). And I never get tired of HN. I was observing the girls reacting to so much sexiness. What were they feeling? What do they feel when seeing such powerful, naked women? I saw the cool girls who were looking at the pics at eye level, so to say. But, today, the vast majority I observed seemed to feel belittled or threatened. And in this group were the youngest and the physically smaller. We need strong women despite their age or size.
