Berlin 9,575 km

We visited today the Cape of Good Hope. I have been thinking about its name: "Hope", or "Esperança" in Portuguese, a language in which "to hope" and "to wait" are synonyms, as in Spanish. Why do Joao II decided to call the "end of the world" in such a way? Not because it was the end of the world, but the angle where you should turn around to head towards India.

From an European point of view, it is "the end of the world". But when you are there, it seems the be the opposite: its very beginning.
